Colin Makes Early Season Arrival
Tropical Storm Colin underscored recent reminders about the need to be vigilant during hurricane season. As we entered last weekend, there was barely a mention of a storm event affecting Florida this week. However, seemingly from nowhere, Colin emerged and began making its way to the Florida gulf coast.
By Monday, Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 34 counties in north and central Florida. “Colin’s a broad-based storm,” Scott said during a news conference. This leads to the possibility of flooding in a wide range of coastal areas. Although Colin’s winds do not appear substantial at this point, the powerful effect of rising water threatens many areas of Florida. We will stay tuned as Colin makes its way toward a landfall Monday afternoon.
