Session Draws to Close; RTYC Reports Coming
The 2011 session of the Florida Legislature came to a close late last night (or this morning, as it went until about 3:00 a.m.). Most of the insurance related issues were resolved one way or the other by Thursday, including the chambers’ passing the major property insurance bill.
One of the final insurance bills that remained up the the air on the last day related to Citizens’ status as a market of last resort. Governor Rick Scott and a number of legislative leaders wanted to return Citizens to it’s originally intended role, but concerns over the impact on rates ultimately prevail and the reform proposals died.
We will be providing a complete run-down on the session in the coming days. As always, we will identify the proposals that passed on a legislative page and will monitor them as they are presented to the Governor and become law. We also will be releasing our next edition of the Florida Insurance Report next week with a full recap. Our subscription feature on this site will allow you and members of your organization to receive this by mail or email. We’ll also be adding to our blog page as news develops.
It was an active session with spirited debate on many issues. The legislature made headway in a number of important areas, and as for others……there’s always next year.
