FPL seeks natural gas pipeline

The Associated Press

Florida Power & Light Company says it has filed a proposal with the state Public Service Commission to build a new underground natural gas pipeline.

The Juno Beach-based utility says the 300-mile pipeline would extend from Palm Beach County north to Bradford County.

The company says the pipeline would help meet increasing demand for natural gas as a clean fuel.

It says the new pipeline also could create 7,500 new jobs, including 3,500 construction jobs, and would eventually generate more than $400 million in property taxes across 14 counties.

FPL President Armando Olivera says the company needs to continue to diversify its fuel sources, including nuclear, solar and natural gas.

The company filed the proposal on Tuesday.
