Murzin to help pick PSC members

From staff reports

State Rep. Dave Murzin, R-Pensacola, is set to be named to head the council that picks nominees for the powerful Public Service Commission.

Murzin will be appointed by House Speaker Larry Cretul to the PSC Nominating Council through the end of his House term in 2010.

The governor ultimately makes the picks for members to sit on the utility-regulatory board, but that choice comes from a list of at least three forwarded by the council.

During Murzin’s chairmanship, four of the PSC’s five commission seats are set to be picked.

The PSC regulates five investor-owned electric companies, seven investor-owned natural gas utilities, and more than 160 investor-owned water and/or wastewater utilities. The commission also oversees telecommunications companies.
