Moody Named to U.S. Senate

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has named Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Marco Rubio in the United States Senate. Senator Rubio has been tapped by President-elect Trump to serve as the country’s next Secretary of State.

Moody was first elected as Florida’s Attorney General in 2018. She won reelection in 2022. During her tenure as state Attorney General, Moody has pursued priorities aligned with those of Governor DeSantis’ administration and President-elect Trump. Moody commented she will bring “the same persistence and tenacity as a United State senator that I have as Florida’s attorney general.” She previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney and as a Hillsborough County circuit judge.

Rubio won re-election to a six-year term in the Senate in 2022. However, because he is vacating the seat, it will be up for election again in 2026.

Governor DeSantis said he will name his current Chief of Staff James Uthmeier as Moody’s successor.
