Altmaier Takes Over as NAIC President

Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier takes over as president of the NAIC effective January 2, 2021.  Altmaier succeeds outgoing president Ray Farmer of South Carolina.

Commissioner Altmaier has served as Florida’s Insurance Commissioner since 2016.  He previously held held several positions within the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation including Chief Analyst of the Property and Casualty Financial Oversight section and Deputy Commissioner of Property and Casualty Insurance.

The NAIC is a national association comprised of state insurance regulatory authorities.  According to the NAIC, the association provides expertise, data, and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers. The association is governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories. Through the NAIC, state insurance regulators establish standards and best practices, conduct peer reviews, and coordinate regulatory oversight.
