Commissioner Altmaier Named NAIC President-Elect

Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier has been named President-Elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), effective January 1, 2020. Commissioner Altmaier has been Vice President of the NAIC during 2019.

“I am honored to have been chosen as President-Elect of the NAIC. This year, we have made significant progress on many key issues. As President-Elect, I will continue the open dialogue to strengthen the consumer-focused framework that guides our mission as state insurance regulators,” said Commissioner Altmaier in a press release.

Governor Ron DeSantis congratulated Commissioner Altmaier, saying “As one of the largest, most complex insurance markets in the world, it is critical for Florida to have a seat at the table for state, national, and global regulatory discussions. I am glad that Commissioner Altmaier will play a leading role in these critical areas.”

Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis added, “As President-Elect, I have every confidence that Commissioner Altmaier will be an advocate for Florida’s consumers. This national role will help ensure Florida is top of mind when decisions are made. I look forward to continue working with him in this position of leadership.”

Attorney General Ashley Moody and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried also applauded Commissioner Altmaier’s election, noting the importance of having Florida’s interests represented in national discussions.
