Homes with up-to-date building codes fared better in Irma

There is no doubt that Hurricane Irma took its toll on homes throughout the county. Shingles, siding and roofs were tossed around like they were nothing more than doll houses. Carports and porches were found several blocks down the road.

When it comes time to rebuild, older homes will have to be brought up to code. One advantage of doing that is a discounted insurance rate. Another benefit is the house will be stronger when another storm hits.
