David Altmaier Runs to Top Spot at OIR
The insurance regulatory professionals of the Radey Law Firm are pleased to congratulate David Altmaier on his appointment effective immediately by the Governor and Florida Cabinet as Insurance Commissioner for the State of Florida.
David was the Deputy Commissioner for Property and Casualty and has been with the Office of Insurance Regulation since 2008. He has focused during his time there on the financial condition of insurers conducting business in Florida. He was interviewed by the Governor and Cabinet this morning and was outstanding in his performance enabling the previously deadlocked Cabinet to reach a consensus decision.
The CFO, Jeff Atwater, began the selection process by renewing his nomination of Bill Hager. When his nomination did not receive a second, the CFO then nominated Belinda Miller and when that nomination did not receive a second he nominated Mr. Altmaier. Included in his motion was a stipulation that Kevin McCarty would remain on staff for 60 days in order to assist Mr. Altmaier as he takes over the role as Insurance Commissioner. His salary was set at $165,000.
David’s outside interests include running, where he is an active member of Tallahassee’s running community. David is a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he ran for the Hilltoppers at distances ranging from 1 mile to 10,000 meters. He was a Kentucky state high school cross country champion in 1999.
