McCarty Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Association for Insurance Reform (FAIR) at its 2015 awards banquet. FAIR is a non-profit association that works to educate consumers and industry stakeholders about the effects of insurance public policy considerations. FAIR attempts to encourage dialogue among consumers, insurers, public adjusters, the trial bar, regulators and other interested parties to help produce balanced public policy decisions.
McCarty was honored for his 27 years in public service, beginning with the state Department of Labor, moving to the Department of Insurance, and ultimately being named Florida’s first appointed insurance commissioner. During this time, he also served as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and has held numerous leadership positions in the insurance regulatory arena.
McCarty gave heartfelt thanks to his family for their support throughout his career. He also recapped many of the high and lows of the Florida insurance market over the course of his career, primarily beginning with Hurricane Andrew and its profound immediate and long-term impacts. In addition to property insurance, McCarty touched on issues affecting workers’ compensation, health insurance, auto insurance and other areas. He also talked about current and expected future issues affecting the markets such as cybersecurity and the impact of water damage claims on all Floridians as increased losses and loss adjustment expenses are making their way into insurers’ rates.
Congratulations to Commissioner McCarty on this prestigious honor!
