Special Session Set for June 1

Special Session Set for June 1

House Speaker Steve Crisafulli and Sentate President Andy Gardiner formally called the legislature into a special session to begin June 1.  The special session might last until June 20, or such earlier time as the legislature may accomplish their constitutionally required objective of passing a budget.

The special session became necessary when lawmakers could not agree on a budget during the recently concluded special session.  The key difference between the House and the Senate related to whether federal Medicaid money should be used to fund health insurance for low income Floridians.  The House and Governor Scott oppose Medicaid expansion.

Topics to be considered in a special session are limited to those specifically referenced in the call of the session.  In addition to the budget, the special session currently will be limited to discussing healthcare legislature and a House tax cut package.
