David Altmaier Named Next Deputy Commissioner for Property and Casualty Insurance

The Office of Insurance Regulation announced that David Altmaier will become the Deputy Commissioner for Property & Casualty insurance effective March 9, succeeding Rich Koon who has decided to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.  In a release to colleagues within the Office of Insurance Regulation, Commissioner McCarty said:

Rich Koon, Deputy Commissioner of Property & Casualty, has served the Office for more than 25 years.  On March 6, he will be leaving the Office to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.  Rich began his career at the Department of Insurance and has become a nationally recognized and highly respected expert in property and casualty insurance.  Rich has been a steadfast member of the team, as well as an advisor and friend to me.  I am proud of all he has accomplished over the years and wish him the best in his new endeavor.  Rich, thank you for your service to the Office and the State of Florida.  We will miss you.

I am pleased to announce that David Altmaier, Director of Property & Casualty Financial Oversight, will be assuming the role of Deputy Commissioner of Property & Casualty effective March 9.  David began his career with the Office in 2008 as an analyst, with much of his focus on the financial condition of insurers conducting business in Florida.  Over the years, David has become a leading/key contributor at the national and international level on solvency and reinsurance matters. Prior to joining the Office, David worked as a licensed agent and high school math teacher. David graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Mathematics.

We are fortunate to have a great team of talented and dedicated professionals.  I am proud to lead such an outstanding organization.
