Bill Would Support FSU Risk Management Center

Bill Would Support FSU Risk Management Center

The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee approved a bill that would use a portion of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund’s investment income to support the Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center at Florida State University.  Under the formula set forth in the bill, the Storm Center would have received a little less than $500,000 annually over the last five years.

A similar bill died last year in the Senate Appropriations Committee.  A House companion bill passed all of its committees but died when it was not taken up on the floor.

The Storm Center was formed in 2007 and coordinates research activities that are designed to have an immediate impact on public policy related to catastrophic storm preparedness.
