Lower premiums, but for how long?
It is a rare and wonderful day when Floridians insured by the state-run Citizens Insurance can celebrate a consumer victory. So it was welcome news when the insurer of last resort’s governing board decided Wednesday that it can cancel a 1 percent surcharge next year — two years earlier than expected.
OK, given the modest reduction, perhaps it is more rare than wonderful, though a different 1.3 percent assessment on a wider variety of insurance policies also will be ending early. Combined, the cuts will save Broward County residents insured by Citizens about $60 a year and Palm Beach County residents about $57.
