Session Outlook 2014: Insurance
The theme for most non-health care insurance issues last year was compromise. Longstanding battles on drug repackaging costs related to workers’ compensation rates and Citizens Property Insurance Corp. saw movement, albeit short of what many wanted.
Expect more of the same this year as the gubernatorial race looms large on the legislative session. Gov. Rick Scott is unlikely to sign changes that will ultimately raise rates to get Citizens to “actuarial soundness,” the holy grail of the insurance industry.
Where they can, lawmakers will take a wait-and-see approach to issues that will lie dormant this year, such as the personal injury protection portion of auto insurance rates and further drug repackaging cost reforms.
