Working Group Resumes Discussion
The Homeowners’ Policy and Claims Bill of Rights Working Group is scheduled to hold a conference call Tuesday beginning at 10:00 to resume consideration of various issues relating to the homeowners insurance claims process. The Insurance Consumer Advocate previously indicated she hopes to have a draft report available by July 30, so the conference call likely will include discussion of items in the draft if the timeline holds. The working group is expected to hold one additional meeting— a conference call scheduled for August 12. The consumer advocate then will release a final report from the working group process.
Key areas of working group discussion thus far have included the scope of examinations under oath (EUOs), the role of the Division of Consumer Services in the mediation process, appraisal clauses, limitations on insurers’ ability to rescind policies when applicants make incorrect statements, solicitation of claims by water extraction companies, assignments of benefits, and unlicensed claims adjusting.
