With Elections Over Attention Turns to 2013 Session

The 2012 election cycle is over, or at least heading that direction as a few races remain subject to possible recounts.  This paves the way for the House and Senate to hold an organizational session to swear in members and transition leadership to new Senate President Don Gaetz and Speaker of the House Will Weatherford.

The 2013 legislative session begins March 5.  Before then the legislature will hold committee meetings.  Interim committee meetings will take place the week of December 3.  In the new year, committees are slated to meet the weeks of January 14, January 21, February 4, February 11 and February 18.

Incoming leadership often restructures committees and makes organizational changes to match their preferences or desired processes.  Speaker Will Weatherford intends to make some changes to the House’s committee structure.   He will have a Regulatory Affairs Committee with three subcommittees– Business & Professional Regulation, Energy & Utilities and Insurance & Banking.

With the elections out of the way (almost), the 2013 session is just around the corner.
