Stevens Sworn in as PSC Commissioner

TALLAHASSEE — Ben A. “Steve” Stevens III, CPA, was sworn in today as a Florida Public Service Commissioner by the Honorable Mark E. Walker, Judge, Leon County Court, 2nd Judicial Circuit. Commissioner Stevens, appointed by Governor Crist, will serve a four-year term.Commissioner Stevens most recently served as the chief financial officer for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for eight years. Before this, he served as interim director and manager of the Office of Management and Budget for the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners, where he also worked as a budget research analyst. Commissioner Stevens began his career as an accountant with Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund in 1989.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Commission and look forward to using my background as a CPA to ensure that Florida’s utilities provide our residents reliable service at a reasonable cost,” said Commissioner Stevens, who earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance from Florida State University. Stevens joins Chairman Nancy Argenziano and Commissioners Lisa Polak Edgar, Nathan A. Skop, and David E. Klement on the five-member panel. The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida’s consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
