TALLAHASSEE — Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) will host a lunchtime information session on September 16, 2009, for local residents to learn about the Link-Up Florida and Lifeline Assistance discount telephone programs. The event will be from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center.

The Walton County event is one of several gatherings across the state to observe National Lifeline Awareness Week, September 14–20, and to raise awareness and increase participation in the discounted telephone program. Representatives will be available to sign up qualified residents for the programs.

Residents will learn how to save money on telephone bills, how to qualify for a free cell phone with monthly minutes, how to obtain a phone for the deaf and hard of hearing, and what services are offered for the vision impaired. A free lunch, provided by Linking Solutions, will be offered to residents who call 866-899-7106 (toll free) on or before September 14, 2009.
