TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a hearing on Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) request for a rate increase beginning Monday, August 24, 2009. The hearing allows FPL and the intervenors to present sworn testimony and exhibits in support of their positions. In June, the PSC conducted nine customer service hearings in FPL’s service area.
In March 2009, FPL filed a petition with the PSC for a permanent base rate increase. FPL provides electric service to approximately 4.5 million retail customers in all or parts of 35 Florida counties. The utility was last granted a general base rate increase in 1985.
The hearing is set for the following time and location:
Beginning Monday, August 24, 2009
9:30 a.m.
Betty Easley Conference Center
Joseph P. Cresse Hearing Room (Room 148)
4075 Esplanade Way
Tallahassee, Florida
In addition, August 25-28, August 31, and September 2-4, have been reserved for the continuation of the hearing, if needed. The starting time of the next day’s session will be announced at the conclusion of the prior day.
The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida’s consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
