Insurance talks: Regulators, industry discuss ways to improve hurricane coverage, repairs
Consumer advocates, insurers and regulators debated a series of proposals aimed at fixing hurricane insurance problems at two day-long meetings Thursday in Tallahassee.
Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Sean Shaw pressed for initiatives to speed up repairs after major storms with 14 insurers, contractors and insurance adjusters at the state Capitol.
Among the ideas: better aligning how contractors and insurers estimate claims to get homes fixed faster. Meanwhile, the Florida Commission on Hurricane Loss Projection Methodology started debating how insurers should predict risk and calculate premiums. The meeting continues at 9 a.m. today. — Julie Patel
