TALLAHASSEE, FL — Progress Energy customers will get a chance to comment on a proposed annual rate increase at a series of public hearings that continue this week.
The proposal would add $14 total to the monthly bill for 1,000 kilowatt hours, which is about average.
The Florida Public Service Commission began the hearings last week. Consumer advocates say the hearings are a chance for customers to make their voices heard and explain what a rate increase could mean to their monthly budget.
Progress Energy wants to raise rates by a total of $499 million. And, estimates show that would give the utility a 12.54 percent profit.
