PSC Customer Service Hearings Set for FPL Rate Request in West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and Plantation

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct five customer service hearings June 24-26, 2009, for customers of Florida Power & Light (FPL). In March, FPL filed a petition with the PSC for an increase to its base rates.
This month, a 1,000 kwh monthly bill for residential customers is $107.04. Using FPL’s proposal, a typical 1,000 kwh monthly bill for residential customers would increase by $12.40 in January 2010 before any fuel cost adjustments. FPL provides electric service to approximately 4.5 million retail customers in all or parts of 35 Florida counties.
The hearings allow customers to comment on the proposed rates and any quality-of-service issues relevant to the utility. Customers are invited to attend the hearings at the following times and locations:
