TALLAHASSEE — Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a hearing beginning Thursday, April 16, to consider if Progress Energy Florida’s (PEF) 2008 standard offer contract for renewable energy generation aligns with Florida legislation and conforms to the PSC rules implementing the legislation. The PSC requires each investor-owned utility to have a standard offer contract continuously available to renewable energy producers.

White Springs Agricultural Chemicals, Inc., which uses waste heat to cogenerate electricity, objected to PEF’s 2008 standard offer contract. At the hearing, Commissioners will hear testimony from representatives of the chemical company and PEF. The hearing is scheduled to last two days, but could end early. The hearing dates, time, and location are below:

Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, 2009
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday
Betty Easley Conference Center
Joseph P. Cresse Hearing Room (Room 148)
4075 Esplanade Way
Tallahassee, Florida

The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida’s consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
