Florida Senate considers clean-power-sources bill
Florida’s private power companies would have to generate 20 percent of their power through clean sources by 2020 under a bill that took its first step in the Senate.
Companies would be able to count nuclear power toward that goal, but it could be no more than 25 percent of their clean energy mix.
The bill (SB 1154) would also add a penny per gallon tax on gasoline, with half the money going to the Renewable Energy Trust Fund. Gov. Charlie Crist supports the bill and the goal of using more solar and wind power.
