Fla. House slates final vote on insurance issue

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida House is ready for a final vote on a measure that would restore a cap on attorneys fees in workers’ compensation cases.
Trial lawyers favor a decision last year by the Florida Supreme Court that struck down a cap on lawyer fees. The justices ruled that attorneys should be paid reasonably for representing injured workers.
The proposal (HB 903) slated for a vote Tuesday is a priority for Speaker Larry Cretul. He opposes the higher rates.
A similar proposal in the Senate is still in committee with the next hearing on the bill scheduled Wednesday.
If passed, the legislation would negate the Florida Supreme Court’s decision last October.
