TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty today announced that he has appointed John McBride to the position of Legislative Affairs Director. Mr. McBride will report to Chief of Staff Audrey Brown.

Mr. McBride comes to the Office from his most recent position as Chief Performance Officer at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), where he was responsible for improving and measuring the agency’s performance and overall efficiency.

John learned the legislative process while serving as a founder of LobbyTools®, an online legislative information and news clipping service based in Tallahassee, Fla. In that role, Florida’s lobbyists relied on his ability to understand and track the legislative process in a timely and thorough fashion.

In 2004, Mr. McBride joined DBPR where he served as a Legislative Specialist researching and developing legislative strategies that would reduce regulatory burdens while safeguarding consumer protection.

In 2005, John was appointed as DBPR’s Legislative Affairs Director and chief lobbyist, a position in which he formulated, directed and executed the department’s legislative agenda.

When not at work, John enjoys competitive sailing and spending time with his wife and two young children.
