TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a hearing on Progress Energy Florida’s (Progress) request for a rate increase beginning Monday, September 21, 2009. The hearing allows Progress and the intervenors to present sworn testimony and exhibits in support of their positions.
In July, the PSC conducted nine customer service hearings in Progress’ service area. An additional customer service hearing will be held at the beginning of the rate hearing in Tallahassee.
In March 2009, Progress filed a petition with the PSC for a permanent base rate increase. Progress provides electric service to more than 1.6 million customers in 35 Florida counties. The utility was last granted a general base rate increase in 1993.
The hearing, set for the following time and location, could last up to ten days:
Beginning Monday, September 21, 2009
9:30 a.m.
Betty Easley Conference Center
Joseph P. Cresse Hearing Room (Room 148)
4075 Esplanade Way
Tallahassee, Florida
The starting time of the next day’s session will be announced at the conclusion of the prior day. All members of the public who wish to make a statement should be present at the beginning of the hearing on Monday, September 21. September 22-25, September 28-30, and October 1-2, have been reserved for the continuation of the hearing, if needed.
The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida’s consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
