Governor Crist Names Dr. Jennifer Languell of Fort Myers as Point of Light for Climate Change and Energy Awareness Month
TALLAHASSEE – Governor Charlie Crist today recognized Dr. Jennifer Languell of Fort Myers as this week’s Point of Light in honor of Climate Change and Energy Awareness Month.
“Dr. Languell’s comprehensive knowledge and excellent communication skills have helped her educate countless Floridians on how to achieve a more sustainable future,” said Governor Crist. “Through her extensive outreach efforts, public service involvement and professional achievements, Dr. Languell is ensuring the protection of our natural environment for generations to come.”
For nearly a decade, Dr. Languell has been one of the country’s preeminent experts in the creation of healthy, efficient and sustainable projects. Currently, she serves as the president of the Florida Green Building Coalition, a nonprofit Florida corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. In addition to her role as president, Dr. Languell donates considerable resources to the Florida Green Building Coalition to help further the organization’s mission of providing “a statewide green building program that defines, promotes, and encourages sustainable efforts with environmental and economic benefits.”
In 2006, Dr. Languell was named the National Association of Home Builders’ Green Advocate of the Year and also won the Council for Sustainable Florida Leadership Award. In 2008, she won the Urban Land Institute of Southwest Florida’s Pathfinder Award, symbolic of vision and leadership in sustainability. Dr. Languell also appears regularly in publications and on television programs including the Discovery Channel’s environmental series, Discovery Project Earth. In addition, Dr. Languell serves on the National Governors Association Policy Academy on Advanced Energy Strategies for Buildings.
AAA Auto Club South is the supporting sponsor of the Governor’s Points of Light Award. This program recognizes Florida residents who demonstrate exemplary service to the community. Award recipients are announced weekly. A panel of judges comprised of leaders in the areas of volunteerism and service evaluate all nominations and make recommendations to the Governor.
