Tom Crabb practices insurance regulatory law as well as insurance-related commercial litigation and corporate law. Serving the daily needs of insurance companies and other corporate clients doing business in Florida is the focus of Tom’s practice. Tom has also advised clients on a variety of significant insurance regulatory matters including issues related to obtaining a certificate of authority to transact insurance in Florida, formation and licensure of managing general agents and other affiliated entities within an insurance holding company system, and insurance company mergers and acquisitions. Tom has helped both insurance companies and producers expand their business to other states.

After receiving specialized training from the Society of Financial Examiners, Tom has advised clients regarding the new risk-focused surveillance of insurance companies by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, and has prepared clients for risk-focused financial examinations.

Tom has a special interest in the law regulating viatical settlement providers in Florida and life settlement transactions. Among other issues, Tom has advised clients on Florida’s insurable interest laws and the oversight of providers by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

At the Florida State University College of Law, Tom graduated in the top five percent of his class, wrote the highest-scoring appellate brief of all first-year students, received numerous book awards, and represented the College of Law Moot Court Team at the Ruby R. Vale Interschool Corporate Moot Court Competition in Delaware and the Robert F. Wagner National Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Competition in New York. Tom is a member of the Florida State University Chapter of the Order of the Coif.

Before going to law school, Tom owned an office equipment dealership in Clearwater, Florida, an experience that gives him a real world perspective on the opportunities available in the Florida market and the unique challenges companies face in doing business here. Tom is an active member of the Tallahassee community and is an avid golfer.
