Office of Insurance Regulation to Study PIP Alternatives
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has issued a request for proposals from firms interested in performing an analysis of alternatives to Florida’s Personal Injury Protection (PIP) laws. The OIR intends to engage a firm this month, with a goal of presenting a final report to executive and legislative branch officials by September 2.
The purpose of the study will be to evaluate recent PIP reforms, as well as to assess the potential impact of eliminating the PIP laws in favor of mandating certain levels of bodily injury coverage. The report also will consider the potential impact of ending auto insurance mandates altogether.
