Florida Legislative Session Underway Today

The 60-day Florida legislative session kicks off today.  As always, the legislature will hear a number of bills related to property and casualty insurance as well as life and health insurance.  Legislative committees already have been meeting and considering bills for the current session.  In the property and casualty arena, the legislature may consider bills relating to the retention and limit of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation depopulation process, and auto insurance ratemaking.  Life and health issues are expected to include legislation on health insurance exchanges and minimum and capital and surplus requirements.  The legislature also is likely to consider bills on general subjects such as requirements for the electronic delivery of policies and Florida’s cancellation and nonrenewal notice requirements.
